At the upcoming conference of the Council of New York Cooperatives & Condominiums, EIS president Lewis Kwit and CNYC board member Martha Sickles will conduct a workshop for New York cooperatives and condominiums entitled “Building Benefits from Energy Opportunities.” The afternoon session will introduce the concepts, technologies, and opportunities for energy storage – the ‘next new thing” in the energy field – for multifamily buildings in today’s urban residential market.
To date, storage has been used primarily by utilities but substantial growth is anticipated in the coming years, with the majority of applications appearing on the customer side of the meter. The session will discuss how storage can be implemented in cooperatives and condominiums to reduce costs, facilitate demand response earnings, stretch the value of on-site generation and enhance building resiliency in case of blackouts. Panel members will include Cory Mauer of New York City-based Integrated Storage Technologies, Tom Scalia of Demand Response, and Haym Gross, R.A., founder of the Solar Salon.
The session will offer practical advice to buildings wishing to develop their sustainability portfolio, present technologies that contribute to a sustainable living environment and discuss state, city and federal incentives available for implementing these protocols.
